Stop Guessing: Use Your DriveHUD Database to Fix Your 3-Bet Pot Leak

·4 min read·Tracking Tips

Most players who grind ClubGG or ClubWPT Gold think about their leaks in vague terms — "I probably call too much" or "I think I'm too loose preflop." The problem is that without a live HUD (which ClubWPT Gold doesn't allow), it's easy to let those hunches go unchecked for thousands of hands. The fix isn't a real-time overlay — it's a disciplined post-session review routine built around one specific, high-leverage spot: 3-bet pots.

Why 3-bet pots deserve your attention first

3-bet pots are where the biggest pots and the biggest mistakes happen. A single misstep here — over-folding, over-calling, or misplaying postflop after the preflop raise — bleeds far more equity per hand than a small blind vs button limp war ever will. Because these pots are also less frequent than standard single-raised pots, players tend to under-review them, which is exactly why they're fertile ground for finding a real leak.

Step 1: Filter for 3-bet pots specifically

Once your session has synced, don't just look at your overall win rate. Build a filtered report that isolates hands where you were the preflop raiser and got 3-bet, and a separate one where you were the 3-bettor. Most tracking software lets you filter by pot type or by the number of preflop raises, so segment these into:

  • Hands where you opened and faced a 3-bet (in position vs out of position)
  • Hands where you 3-bet and got action

Looking at these as two distinct buckets matters because the correct strategy — and the common mistake — is different for each.

Step 2: Check your Fold to 3-Bet number by position

Your overall Fold to 3-Bet stat is close to useless on its own; the position-split version is where the insight lives. A fold rate that's reasonable from early position can be far too high from the button or cutoff, where your opening range is wider and should contain more hands built to continue. If your database shows you folding to 3-bets at a similar rate regardless of position, that's a strong signal you're not adjusting your continuing range to your opening range — a classic and very fixable leak.

Step 3: Review the actual hands, not just the stat

Stats tell you where to look; hands tell you what's wrong. Pull ten to fifteen recent instances where you folded to a 3-bet and watch for patterns:

  • Are you folding hands with good blockers or playability that should continue?
  • Are you folding too often against 3-bets from loose, recreational-heavy seats that show up a lot on club apps like ClubGG and ClubWPT Gold?
  • Are you 3-bet folding a similar range whether the raise came from a nit or a maniac?

Because club-app player pools often include a wide range of skill levels at the same table, treating every 3-bettor as equally strong is a mistake. Your database review should separate "3-bet from a tight regular" from "3-bet from a player who's 3-bet four times in twenty hands."

Step 4: Check what happens after you continue

Don't stop at the fold decision. Look at your performance in 3-bet pots you played to showdown or beyond — your went-to-showdown rate and win rate at showdown specifically within this pot type. If you're continuing but consistently losing more than expected in these pots, the leak might be postflop: calling 3-bets with hands that play poorly out of position, or failing to apply pressure on the right run-outs.

Step 5: Set one adjustment and re-test

Resist the urge to overhaul your whole preflop strategy at once. Pick one adjustment — for example, continuing wider against button 3-bets when you opened from the cutoff — and track it over your next few hundred hands of 3-bet pots specifically. This is where consistent tracking pays off: reviewing your DriveHUD 2 database after each session lets you see whether the adjustment actually moved your win rate in that pot type, rather than relying on memory or gut feel.

The takeaway

You don't need a live HUD to find and fix leaks on ClubGG or ClubWPT Gold — you need a review habit. Isolate 3-bet pots, split the numbers by position, read the actual hands behind the stats, and change one thing at a time. That's a far more reliable path to a better win rate than any overlay could offer.
