Why 3-Bet Pots Deserve Their Own Review Session

Most players study their overall win rate and call it a day. But win rate is an average — it hides where the money actually leaks. One of the highest-value, lowest-effort ways to plug leaks is to isolate 3-bet pots specifically, because they're higher variance, higher stakes relative to the pot, and full of decision points where small mistakes compound fast.

Step 2: Check Your Result by Position

Within the "you 3-bet" filter, break results down by in-position versus out-of-position. A lot of players have a perfectly fine in-position 3-betting win rate and a quietly disastrous out-of-position one. Step 3: Look at Flop Continuation Rate in 3-Bet Pots

Continuation betting in a 3-bet pot is a different animal than a single-raised pot: pots are bigger, ranges are narrower, and opponents call down lighter because they've already committed chips. If your c-bet frequency in 3-bet pots matches your c-bet frequency everywhere else, you're probably firing too often on boards that miss your range and getting punished for it.

Step 4: Sort by Showdown Winnings, Not Just Total Winnings

Once you've isolated 3-bet pots, sort them by how much you won or lost at showdown specifically. If you're losing money at showdown in 3-bet pots more often than in regular pots, that's a strong signal you're either value-betting too thin on the river or continuing too wide when facing resistance. If you're winning at showdown but losing overall, the leak is earlier — you're likely folding too much before the river and letting opponents realize equity for free.

Step 5: Pull 10-15 Hands and Actually Replay Them

Numbers point you in a direction, but the real learning happens when you replay the actual hands. Pick the ten or fifteen biggest losing 3-bet pots from the last month and walk through them street by street. Ask three questions on each one: was my preflop sizing standard, did my bet sizing match my range on later streets, and would a strong regular have taken a different line anywhere. Patterns tend to show up fast — usually by hand five or six you'll notice the same mistake repeating.

Turning This Into a Routine

This kind of review only works if it's repeatable. Set a recurring block — even fifteen minutes once a week — to rerun the same filter and see if the numbers are trending in the right direction.
