ClubWPT Gold Exits Nevada: What the Shutdown Means for Players Tracking Their Results

The Nevada exit, in brief

Nevada players got unwelcome news late last month. ClubWPT Gold, the sweepstakes platform backed by the World Poker Tour, sent an email informing them that it would be winding down services in the state "as part of changes to our operations in response to state regulatory action."

The timeline moved fast. Deposits ("purchases") were disabled immediately, and players in the Silver State could no longer make purchases but could still enter poker games until midnight on Sept. 28, with the site encouraging players to redeem any account balances by Oct. 2. On-site language softened slightly after the initial announcement — the operator later relabeled the move as "pausing" rather than winding down, saying it is optimistic that product modifications could allow it to resume sweepstakes gameplay in the future.

Why Nevada moved against it

This wasn't a surprise out of nowhere. Nevada passed SB 256 in 2025, broadening its unlicensed gambling statutes to cover dual-currency platforms, and ClubWPT Gold had operated there under its Hand Analysis structure arguing the product sat outside the statute — regulators disagreed. The state didn't publicly specify which exact regulation triggered the final action.

The practical fallout is real. ClubWPT Gold had become a major player in Nevada's online poker scene, competing with the only traditional, licensed poker site in the state, with thousands of players including some top pros using it. For those players, the regulated alternative left standing is WSOP Online, part of the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement with New Jersey and Delaware — there is no sweepstakes replacement.

The exit also drops ClubWPT Gold's footprint to 41 states from 42, and it's not the first retreat this year — the platform has previously pulled back in other states as regulatory pressure on the sweepstakes model has built state by state.

What's unaffected

If you're worried this touches WPT's live tournament calendar, it doesn't. The shutdown doesn't directly affect the December WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas since that event is live poker, and Nevada's regulatory action against the sweepstakes platform has no jurisdiction over a physical tournament floor. The online qualifier path tied to that event is simply no longer open to Nevada residents specifically.

Other news from the app this week

Away from the regulatory drama, ClubWPT Gold's content side kept moving. Alexandra Botez took the $250,000 top prize in Poker Champs, the platform's eight-player heads-up bracket for content creators, winning all three of her best-of-three matches against Erobb221, PaymoneyWubby and Sodapoppin. It's a reminder that, regulatory headlines aside, ClubWPT Gold is still actively running high-profile promotional formats to keep players engaged.

What it means for players

A few takeaways if you grind on ClubWPT Gold:

  • If you're in Nevada, the clock has already run out on the sweepstakes product — your realistic options now are a licensed, real-money site like WSOP Online or traveling to play live.
  • If you're in one of the other 41 states, nothing changes operationally today, but this is the latest in a string of state-by-state pullbacks. The sweepstakes poker landscape is clearly still being shaped in real time by regulators.
  • Regardless of state, episodes like this are a good prompt to stop relying solely on an app's in-platform stats. State access, account structures, and even currency systems have shifted multiple times over the past year. Your own historical record of sessions, win rate, and hand history is something no regulatory action can take away from you.

That last point is really the practical angle for serious players. Since ClubWPT Gold doesn't allow on-screen HUD overlays, the right move is capturing your hand histories as you play and reviewing them afterward rather than leaning on a live overlay. A dedicated ClubWPT Gold tracker that imports your hands into DriveHUD lets you keep an independent, portable record of your results — win rate, graphs, and hand review — that travels with you no matter what happens on the regulatory side. If you're setting this up for the first time, the setup guide walks through getting hand capture running correctly.

The sweepstakes poker model is clearly still in flux. Keeping your own data in order is one thing within your control while everything else gets sorted out.
